I’m so glad you’re here!
Fingers crossed you’re here because you’re looking for help when it comes to Posing the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen on a wedding day.
I totally feel you, I’ve been there! I’ve stood there and thought, “Man, I want them to genuinely laugh and interact…but I have no idea what to tell them to do.”
These are four small tips you can do on a wedding day to help improve your interaction and posing with the Bridesmaids & Groomsmen. Now, Let’s goo!
Yep, you heard it right. Get to know your people! I make it my goal to interact with each and every bridesmaid / groomsman in one way or another.
Are they wearing a cool tie? TELL THEM! Do you love their hair? TELL THEM! Be a real human, get excited about things, and tell them. There’s nothing better than being involved on a wedding day. Start that at the beginning of the day while they’re getting ready, start conversation..get talking to them before the photos happen!
Okay, now it’s photo time and you have the bridesmaids / groomsmen all lined up and you need that one guy on the end to move a little to the left. But, do you know his name? You should.
The very first thing I do if I haven’t already caught their name or something significant about them (aka: something funny happened during getting ready and now he’s nicknamed ….) is have everyone go down the line and tell me their names! Try to truly pay attention and do the best you can to remember their names. So when you need someone to turn to the right or left you can say, “Hey, Steven do you mind turning to the left a little?” vs. “Hey, you, can you move this way? Yeah, you the tall guy.”
Personalism goes a LONG way on a wedding day. Everyone likes to be called by name.
Alright, it’s time for you to get stuff moving!
This often creates more laughter, and texture within your images! Have them run towards you, link arms and walk slow motion, just get people moving! They don’t always just have to stand there and look at you and smile. Make them move around!
I think the key to taking great photographs is making it feel effortless for people, make it feel like they aren’t getting their photo taken. How do I do that? I start a conversation! I hardly ever leave a photo open ended. If I’m asking my couples, or bridesmaids/groomsmen to do something I’ll say, “Okay, I’m going to have you all talk about what you are excited to eat tonight, or your biggest pet peeve!”
It’s not about what you’re asking them to talk about, but it’s about the fact that they aren’t thinking about getting their photo taken! Their talking, having fun, laughing all because you asked them to talk about what they’re excited to eat. (All the banging hor d’oeuvres, obviously!)
So, moral of the story... get your people talking!
I’ll be honest here this one took me time to feel comfortable to bust out some music during a shoot. But, when I did I realized how it truly took this up a notch and the results were FIRE!! Pop up that spotify playlist with some tunes with a beat and you’ll get everyone moving, dancing and laughing! Feel free to grab a small bluetooth speaker to up your game with the playlists!
Our couples and bridal parties LOVE THIS!
